DroneBlocks

 Date: September 19, 2023

Introduction:

On September 19, 2023, my partner Alyssa and I embarked on an exciting venture into drone technology, using and programming a TELLO-Jellyfish drone. With a Tello-Drone at our disposal and a strong foundation in coding, we crafted a mesmerizing flight sequence. This included tracing a perfect square in the sky five times, followed by a daring front-flip, backflip, and a graceful landing.

Flight Sequence:

As the propellers whirred to life, our creation took flight, painting a perfect square in the sky, repeating it five times over. This display served as a testament to the incredible potential of coding in conjunction with the Tello-Drone's advanced capabilities.

The Tello-Drone then executed a breathtaking forward front-flip and a daring backflip, showcasing the seamless integration of DroneBlocks and the Tello app.

Guided by our meticulously crafted code, the drone descended gracefully, landing with precision.

Learning Experience:

When getting prepared to go to Metro the journey is expected to be beyond technical prowess as it will be a hands-on immersion into the world of drone technology. We will use our skills, gain confidence in navigating the Tello app and mastering DroneBlocks.

Partnership with Tello-Drone and DroneBlocks:

Our collaboration with the Tello-Drone and DroneBlocks has unlocked doors of creativity and innovation. We've attached a video for reference.

Lego Stimulation for Metro:

Activities:

  • We began our session by visiting the "Lego Education" website to select a suitable activity for our project with Metro Elementary.

  • After careful consideration, my partner Alyssa and I decided on the "Plants and Pollinators" activity, tailored specifically for grades 1-5 at the Intermediate level.

  • We meticulously reviewed our semester calendar for Fall 2023, identifying crucial deadlines and assignments to stay on track.

  • In the latter part of our session, spanning approximately an hour and a half, Alyssa and I enthusiastically delved into the step-by-step construction of our robot.

Goals for the Next Class:

  1. Complete Robot Construction: Our primary goal for the next class is to successfully finish building our robot. We have 51 steps to follow, and we are determined to see it through to completion.

  2. Prepare for Metro Elementary Presentation: In preparation for our presentation at Metro Elementary on September 25th, we are committed to conducting extensive research and completing all necessary homework.

  3. Collaborate Outside of Class: We aim to meet outside of scheduled class times at least 1-2 times to work on the project together. This will ensure that we are aligned in our efforts and progress smoothly.

Additional Notes:

  • Download Spike App: To enable our robot to generate sound, noises, and more, we will download the Spike app onto our computer.

  • Print Picture Cards: In readiness for our meet at Metro Elementary, we will print out picture cards from the website.

  • Exit Ticket: Tonight's exit ticket assignment is to initiate the designated activity.

  • Portfolio Deadline: A reminder that the portfolio submission deadline is Saturday, September 9th.

  • Blog Notes Assignment: This assignment is also due on Saturday, September 9th.

In addition to our work with DroneBlocks, we are excited to announce that we will be engaging the students in a Lego activity during our session. This hands-on approach will further enhance their understanding and involvement in robotics.

We are enthusiastic about the progress we've made so far and look forward to the exciting challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in this collaborative robotics project.

As the session concludes, we'll remind the children to thank them for their participation and express our hope that they've learned something new and exciting. We look forward to future adventures in drone technology and robotics!
